Node based non-linear editing

Node-based editing gives you control you can’t get in a timeline. Away from the timeline, you can globally control things like Fade Up and Down times, Lower Third Fonts and colors, nearly anything.

Nodes contain properties

The Lower Third node

Traffic’s unique interface puts all of the controls right in front of you on every node- You don’t have to fish around for them in a different window. Control everything with a bird’s eye view and combine and organize multiple projects, bins, and clips automatically.

Manipulate like a visual effects artist, using Traffic’s powerful node-based interface to visualize complex relationships between clips, effects, nearly everything.

Experiment like never before by copying and pasting Effects and Filters across sequences, multiple sequences, even multiple sequences across multiple projects.

Create like a musician by looping your sequences and cutting as fast as you can tap the keyboard.

Here’s a Taste of what Traffic Nodes can do

Clip Trigger

The Clip Trigger node allows you to trigger other operations based on certain conditions, like if the Source Tape is named BlueScreenShoot02 or if the Timecode falls within a particular range. Works well with: The clip SIFT node. You might want to cut a new sequence of just the Blue Screen shots for your effects guys over in the Smoke/Flame department.

Tapcutter
The Tapcutter node

The Tapcutter node is one of the first plug-ins for Traffic and will be included free with Traffic. It allows you to cut as fast as you can tap the keyboard, like to the beat of the music or to an internal sense of timing you can’t explain. Good for: Music Videos, Previz, etc.

Loop Loop

The Loop Loop node allows you to interactively select the beginning and end points of a loop while at the same time allowing you to cut in new footage each loop.
Good for: Tagging commercials, multiple versioning, craziness.

Navigate quickly around the most complex setups

The Zoom Feature

Traffic has an innovative way to pan around your workspace. Similar to Mac OS X's Expose feature, Command-Click the interface and Traffic will show you a miniaturized silhouette of your entire setup. You can quickly navigate to any node, no matter how large your setup.

Traffic Plug-Ins let you take it to the next level

The Spreadsheet node

Traffic also sports a plug-in architecture, which allows third-party developers to create “widget-like” plug-ins to extend the capabilities of Traffic. Plug-ins that are currently in development will provide:

  • Access to Motion projects from within the Traffic interface.
  • The ability to work with Spreadsheets and Databases (for subtitling and sophisticated logging operations).
  • Unlimited resolution recording to DV cameras and decks.

If you’re interested in developing plug-ins for Traffic you should take a look in the Developer section.

What is the XML Interchange Format?

The XML Interchange is a file format originally specified by Apple Computer, Inc. that has been endorsed by other companies such as Discreet and Media 100. It is a robust file format designed to allow moving projects between various software packages easily. The XML interchange format is different than other universal file structures like AAF and OMF in that it carries only metadata (which links to actual movie and audio files rather than containing them).

There is no formal group governing the XML Interchange format outside of Apple Computer, Inc., but xm|edit maintains a mailing list for discussion and recommendations to the XML Interchange format. If you are interested in joining the discussion, take a look in the Developer section.

Traffic Minimum Requirements

  • Mac OS X 10.3.9 or higher
  • Software Package which supports the Apple XML Interchange format
  • 512MB of RAM
  • 350 MB of Disk Space
